One of BinkyBro’s core beliefs is that surf culture isn’t just a summer thing, or a vacation thing, or for people lucky enough to live by the water. In our minds, surf culture is a state of mind and it goes with everything – even Halloween.

For years before starting our own clothing company we’d see the token orange pumpkin tee pop up at our local grocery store in October. We bought a few, wore them once, and threw them immediately into the storage bin (don’t get us started on seasonal clothing again). But now that we’re designing kids tees, we’re taking a more subtle approach to the Halloween theme, with four new tees and a new hoodie that thread the needle between festive and classic.

This whole drop is set on black with our signature look: small graphic on the front left with the same graphic repeated full scale on back. Let’s rate them from extra Halloween to lowkey spook.

#1: Pumpkins

Orange skulls and hang loose bones surround a bold ‘surf culture’ graphic accented by a wash of orange waves. We love how the pumpkin-esque shape of the skelly skulls make you do a double take. Yep, it’s spooky season.

 #2: Boos, Boards, & Barrels

At first glance, this tee is a classic black and white BNKY design with some pops of orange. But look closer, and you’ll see a ghost friend hanging out in the waves. He’s just chillin, or maybe waiting to give someone else a chill…

#3: Surfing Skelly

Here’s a tee that goes hard in October but is wearable all year long. We added green, because Halloween, but also threw in red and some hints of yellow to balance the palette. We love these bold colors, especially set against black

#4: Skateboarding grim reaper

In this streamlined black and white design, skelly goes skating in a robe we’re calling Grim Reaper meets Dementor. Another brand might only make this in October, but for us it’s just another day at the skate park.

#5: Hoodie

It seemed wrong to make a Halloween drop without a warm layer, and this one is coming in hot. The [name] hoodie features an Old English meets Haunted House “BNKY SK8” graphic on front, and a few of our favorite things accenting the length of the right sleeve. Versatile enough to wear all winter. Keeps the Halloween vibes alive if you had to throw it over a costume.

#6: Hydrojug
Okay, this one is not a clothing item but we couldn't resist working with a another local company - Hydrojug - to add a fun piece to this Halloween capsule. This 20oz kids traveler is perfect size for a festive new addition to your kids school backpack. Stay hydrated--and look good doing it.

Dressing up BNKY style

Speaking of costumes, helping kids decide what to be for Halloween is one of those parenting jobs that can get unnecessarily stressful. Moment of silence for those of us who have fallen into the trap of making a wearable fire engine costume out of cardboard boxes. And honestly, moment of applause for parents who love doing the DIY costume thing.

Most stores are brimming with cheaply made nylon costumes right now that, as Jerry Seinfeld once put it, look more like Superman’s pajamas than the real thing. If that route makes your kids Halloween dreams come true, we’re all for it. But if you’re less into a costume that fills your home with the smell of synthetic materials, here are a couple ideas that are easy to pull off and BNKY approved.

Little surfer:

If you’ve got a kid-sized wetsuit, throw it on and grab a kickboard they can carry under their arm, (or at least long enough to get a pic, let’s be real). If you don’t have a wetsuit, some black footie pajamas would work great, not to mention they’ll be warm and make your life that much easier when you get home from trick-or-treating late. Bonus points for gelling your guy’s hair to look like they just crashed on an epic wave.

Moto King Josh Herrin:

Sure, you could go full send on this and order a motorcycle jumpsuit. If that seems hard, grab what may already be in your kid’s closet: a pair of jeans, some chucks or Adidas, a simple tee and our Herrin snapback. Not everyone at school will get it, but sometimes it’s cooler when your costume category is IYKYK.

Dress up like Dad:

For the years your kid doesn’t know or care what their costume is, we say take advantage of the easiest idea ever. If you live in a warmer climate, grab some matching swim trunks for you and your little guy, a white shirt, and some flip flops. Most of our snapbacks come in size 4 months up to adult, so throw on one of those for the cherry on top. If you live somewhere you never know whether it will be 70 degrees or snowing on Halloween night, pick an everyday matching outfit that’s weather appropriate and top it off with matching hats.

Happy Halloween

We hope this October finds you outfitted in your spookiest fall fits and enjoying time with your crew. Whether you’re rocking Binky on the 31st or otherwise, don’t forget to give us a tag.
