Whether it’s spring break, summer vacation, or a local legends-only adventure at home, keeping you and your kiddos cool and protected from harsh rays is always a priority. Being prepared with a pre-sun routine can help you simplify the fuss so you can enjoy the sunshine with your bro in tow.

Here’s three tips to help you stay ready for fun in the sun.

  1. Keep sunscreen on hand

No matter the season, keep sunscreen with you to keep you and your littles protected. Remember, sunburns aren’t just for summer. Year round, keep at least a travel-sized bottle of sunscreen that works for kids and grownups in your diaper bag or go-to purse.

Baby Bum Mineral SPF 50 Roll-On Sunscreen by Sun Bum is a stick that is easy to apply for those wiggly toddlers and you can use it for yourself too. What’s most important is to keep sunscreen on hand and then reapply every two hours.

If you have a swim bag or backpack that you bring for a full-day outing, surely you’re packing sunscreens for the whole gang with a substantial SPF above 50. In addition, keep a sunscreen stick or something easy-to-carry in your everyday bag so you’re not left stranded without SPF and so you can really enjoy having fun in the sun.

  1. Pack a hat

What’s worse than not having a hat when, at the last minute, you decide to head to the playground in the heat of the day and your kid’s face is redder than the T. Swift era? Knowing you have a whole basket of hats back at home. Keeping a hat in your diaper bag at all times is one of those parent hacks you wish you had thought of sooner.

Switch out the extra hat in your diaper bag or bag-of-choice each season. For example, keep a Binky Bro beanie in your diaper bag for the winter, and in the summer, trade it in for an easy-to-squish bucket hat like our Salt Creek or Blakely hat in case your day turns into a day outside.

Our famous Barney Patrol straw hats provide fantastic sun coverage for faces, shoulders, and backs. They aren’t packable for a diaper bag, but they are great to keep ready-to-go in the car for any last-minute adventures.

  1. Stash sunglasses

Face it, there’s nothing better than a pair of shades on a sunny day to help you stay comfortable and look cool. The same goes for even the littlest of Binky Bros.

At a beach with white sand or a playground or skate park with light concrete, summer reflections can be especially uncomfy on the eyes. Some kids may not know how to express it, but sunglasses do make a big difference for comfort and protection in the sun.

Keep pairs of affordable sunglasses for kids in all the places you might need them—your car, your diaper bag, your pool bag. As you know, sunglasses have a way of running off. Our BinkyBro sunglasses for toddlers are at the perfect price point so you don’t have to sweat it if they get lost in the waves.
